Sagemcom f@st 2864 BRIDGE with dd-wrt

Hi Folks,

If you are lucky enough to have FTTN service via VDSL as we are you likely have a BELL Connection hub or otherwise know to those in the know as a

Sagemcom fast 2864

Listen... do yourself a favour and put this sucker in bridge mode and use your own internal router.  I had no end of trouble trying to do VPN networking with this device, trust me it doesn't work!  Furthermore they have watered down the administration panels so you basically can't get at any advanced settings.  They don't even give their technical resellers and information how to get into more advanced administrative functions.  Don't even bother.  To put this into bridge mode go into the resets page of the administration  panel and do a hard reset.  Make sure you know what your PPoE username and password is and jot down any port forwarding settings you may have set up.

you then connect to the device in factory settings (192.168.2.1) admin, admin

do another factory reset, then connect port LAN1 to you WAN port on your own router.  Make sure that your PPPoE settings are entered correctly and you have set up your lan and gateway settings on your own internal router.

you will then be in bridged mode and hopefully you will have more control over your Internet connection and data.  Honestly I think it is a commercial plot for these companies to restrict your access and not allow you to do things like VPN where you can encrypt your traffic....but that's just the conspiracy guy talking ...

happy hacking!!

  1. Did you get any speed issue after ?

  2. Hey Maxime, speed tests confirm 25 down 7 up, no change. I suppose it could vary based on hardware version. Sorry I didn't jot that down before bridge mode. I'm happy with it in this mode, the Bell service is fabulous, no complaints but a watered down business router that won't allow VPN is probably not a good sales idea.

  3. I was told by my ISP that I could buy this modem and not have to rent it. Anyone know where you can buy the Sagemcom fast 2864?

    1. PowrrPlay , If you are still interested in buying Sagemcom fast 2864 , I have a brand new one that I bought from bell for Fibe Service but I no longer need because I have switched to a different service provider. I can sell it to you for $50+shipping fee.OR another option could be to exchange routers if you have one that supports DD-WRT because I am looking to buy one.Contact me @amenteATliveDOTcom

  4. Hey, thanks Peter.

Worked like a charm for me (Asus RT-N65U behind the 2864). I'm also getting 25/7.

  5. Quick question to clarify - you're getting the DD-WRT device to handle PPPoE credentials?

  7. I'm on the Teksavvy network using the 50/10 (50 down, 10 up) package. When I follow these instructions above and others reference similar ones, I noticed a dramatic speed drop on my downloads. Whether I used my LinkSys EA4500 or a WRT54GL with latest Tomato firmware, my download speeds dropped from 50 to about 30-35 Mbps. Interestingly, the upload speeds remained pretty consistent. I retested a few different times on a few different days, my results are fairly repeatable (at least from my home in Etobicoke, Ontario).

There are alternate instructions on a Wiki that describe how to flash firmware, but those no longer appear to work on the newest firmware from Sagemcom. Just as well, I was not entirely comfortable doing this anyways.

All of this may be a non-issue for those on 30mbps and lower plans, but those on the higher end plans, curious to see if there are similar issues. I'm likely going to try an alternative modem to Sagemcom's. The reason this is important to me is that I'd like to be able to VPN into my (future) OpenWRT-based router to land on my network directly while remote.

It would sure be nice if this modem manufacturer could offer a proper bypass to its routing.

    Kind Regards.

    1. An update on the Sagecom saga. Here is something else that was a problem, DO NOT USE THIS ROUTER WITH MAC COMPUTERS ... So if you are using a MAC This particular router essentially kills any big download from a MAC computer on the other side of the router. Basically the moral of the story replace this with the

      SMART RG SR505N

and be done with the sage

  9. Hello, I know this is an old post but I need to know if this will work on the Sagemcom 1704 with a Linksys WRT54G DD-WRT installed? I remember seeing a pppoe setting on the Linksys, but where is the DLS settings like ADSL+2 etc?
